Wipe or scrape up the excess drywall mud if it’s still wet, and discard it into the trash. Blot the carpet with a light-colored wet rag. Turn it frequently, keeping the carpet damp. Don’t scrub at it because this works the drywall mud deeper into the carpet fibers. Allow the damp carpet to dry, then vacuum it with a dust brush attachment to loosen and pick up residual drywall mud particles.
