How Do You Clean Flood Damaged Carpet?

Flood waters can signal the demise of your carpet. Before attempting to clean your flood-damaged carpet, you have a few issues to consider. Most wall-to-wall carpet is glued or nailed down, and while carpet is much easier to clean if you can move it to another location, you will most likely have to clean your carpet where it lies. If the flood waters were contaminated by raw sewage, you should discard the carpet and padding. You should dispose of the carpet and padding if it was under water longer than 24 hours as well. If you do opt to clean your carpeting, clean it as soon as possible. Close your windows if the weather is still humid outside. If the air inside the house is more humid than the outside air, open as many windows as possible. Turn on ceiling fans or box fans to help draw moisture out of the carpet. If you have central or window air conditioning, turn it on as well. Pull as much water out of the carpet as possible with a wet/dry vacuum. Continue until the carpet is dry. V
