Glass fireplace doors are made of special glass, called tempered glass, which is made to withstand the extreme heat of the open flames. Glass doors offer a safe view of your fire, when the doors are clean. Soot naturally builds up on the glass doors quickly, however, obstructing your view. You can spend extra money on fireplace glass cleaners to clean these doors, but that is not necessary. You can easily, efficiently and safely remove soot from your glass doors using common, inexpensive products and a little scrubbing. Make sure the glass doors are cool before you begin. Put on rubber gloves and add 1 cup of white distilled vinegar with 1 cup of warm water in a clean spray bottle. Shake the bottle to mix the vinegar and water. Open the fireplace doors. Spray the insides of the doors, liberally, with the vinegar and water mixture. Spray more mixture on a paper towel. According to goodhousekeeping.com, you can then dab this paper towel in the ashes to use the ashes as a mild abrasive. ...  more
