High humidity and cool, dark conditions often lead to mildew and mold growth in your home. Aside from being unsightly and musty smelling, mildew and mold can cause health complications—such as asthma attacks and hay fever symptoms—and possible structural damage if not kept in check. Cleaning away mildew regularly and controlling the environment will prevent a mold or mildew infestation. Fill a spray bottle with white distilled vinegar. Spray the mildew liberally. Allow to stand for 10 to 15 minutes. Wet a sponge with warm water and sprinkle with baking soda. Scrub mildew to loosen it from the surface. Wipe away all mildew with a wet rag. Dry the surface completely to prevent future mold growth.
