However, there are a few things you can do to clean a spill safely and in a timely manner using materials that may already be lying around your home. A gasoline spill dissipates pretty quickly, releasing fumes that can be ignited. Check for any open flames or anything that might produce a spark and remove and/or extinguish them. Ventilate the area. If you are in an enclosed area, such as a garage or basement, open any doors or windows. The fumes from the gasoline can make you dizzy and nauseous, so maintaining a good air flow in the area is essential. Cover the spill with kitty litter. The litter will absorb the gasoline and the fumes emanating from it. If you do not have kitty litter, you can use baking flour.
