You can make that clean plain old vase into a work of art with a little bit of patience and some work. The old vase will become the envy of your friends and you will have the knowledge that no one else has the exact same vase anywhere, because you have created it yourself. Clean that old plain glass vase, jar, or plate that you want to etch on. Dry it off so that you have a clean surface to work with. Use window cleaner to remove any grease or dirt. Create a pattern on tracing paper. One idea is to use an old doily and draw the designs from the openings of the doily to make your design. Or, if you are really creative, make your own design.
