How Do You Configure Cable Modem To Use Ethernet Instead Of Usb?
Typically, cable modems automatically sense whether you are using USB or Ethernet. I would suggest unplugging your cable modem from the power adapter for at least 15 to 30 minutes and prior to plugging it back in, hook up the ethernet with the USB unplugged. In my experience, Comcast typically requires 5 minutes with the Modem powered off, while Adelphia requires at least 15 minutes. Your provider may vary slightly. I stongly suggest using a DSL/Cable Modem Router instead of hooking the cable modem up to your computer directly. This will provide a firewall between your computer and the internet. Without it, your computer would be connected directly to the internet, thus allowing anybody in the world to access it directly, through the usual methods of networking, or by exploiting security vunerabilitys that exist in nearly every operating system out there.
