Music lyrics, writings and various other creative works are protected through copyright. The author of a work is the original owner of the copyright and the copyright provides the author with proof of ownership. All Jamaican citizens, nationals, corporate entities and habitual residents established under Jamaican Law qualify as owners of their works under the Copyright Act. Place your music work under copyright notice once you have recorded the work by writing the word copyright and/or by using the copyright symbol. You will need to supply the date of your created work and your name as the author. This will give public notice of your work to prove your ownership of copyright in the court system.
