An active partition is a partition on your hard drive that is marked as the one the computer should boot from whenever the computer is started up. There can be only one active partition per drive, and if you create a partition and mark it active when it doesn’t have an operating system boot loader on it, it will cause your computer to stop booting your operating system. You can, however, create a partition and mark it active yourself, but be careful when doing so.
