How Do You Create An Erupting Volcano Science Project?

0

Volcanoes contain hot lava which is produced in the earth’s core and flows through cracks in the earth’s crust. A volcano is built up over thousands of years, as the pressure of underneath pushes up the layer of crust. The crater of the volcano is the active opening where lava and gases are released during an eruption. The chemical reaction of an eruption involves the mixture of gases such as sulfur, water vapor and carbon dioxide. A science project can be constructed using household materials to demonstrate a similar (safer) chemical reaction that will produce carbon dioxide gas and bubbles. Line your project area with several layers of newspaper for protection, if desired. Stand the plastic bottle up on the paper plate. Build a mound of clay or papier-mâché around the bottle to create the shape of a volcano. Make sure to keep the bottle opening exposed. Allow the mound to dry completely and paint if desired. Insert the funnel into the bottle opening. Measure and pour four tablespoons
