Oracle database templates contain the information needed to create a database. You can create your own templates in order to clone an existing database, or set up a new database that will be deployed more than once. The template contains information such as the database options, initialization parameters and datafile, tablespace, and control file locations and definitions. Oracle 10g has a database configuration assistant (DBCA) that provides a graphical interface for creating or manipulating a template. Double-click the DBCA icon under the “Configuration Assistant” in the “Start” menu if you have Oracle installed on a Windows computer. Unix users should type “dbca” in a terminal window. Go to the “Template Management” page. Choose whether you want to create a new template from an existing template, an existing database using only the structure of the database, or an existing database using the structure as well as the data.
