How Do You Create Antique Wood Finish?
Antique wood furniture or surfaces have a depth and warmth that newly made and finished wood surfaces can’t quite match. It’s easy to fake an antique finish by using a few household objects to “mar” the surface of the wood and create the illusion that the piece is very old. Then you can fake the “patina” of antique wood surfaces by applying an antiquing gel. This process is much easier than the look of the finished product leads you to believe. Plus you’ll have fun “wrecking” the surface of your new wooden object. Apply wood stain with a soft cloth on a small area at a time. Wipe on the stain. Then wipe off excess with a clean, dry cloth. Allow the stain to dry according to the manufacturer’s instructions. (If you do not wish to stain your wood surface and want a natural wood finish, this step can be omitted and you can proceed directly to Step 2.) Distress the surface. Use sandpaper to round off the corners and edges of the piece. Use the point of a knife or other pointed object to po
