How Do You Cut Ceramic Tile & Cement Board?
When installing vertical tile in a bathroom or any other area exposed to moisture, it is always a good idea to use cement board as the backing for the tile. Cement board is extremely strong, and is not harmed by prolonged exposure to water. Fortunately, cutting cement board and ceramic tile is performed in a very similar manner. Most homeowners can become proficient in this process by following a few easy steps. Measure the cement board to be cut, making sure that your dimensions are accurate. Mark the dimensions on the cement board on both sides with a felt tip marker and a straight edge. Be sure your markings on both sides line up correctly. Score both sides of the cement board with a utility knife along the felt tip marker lines. Be sure to cut through the outer glass-fiber mesh in all areas along the proposed cuts.
