Use safety goggles and a dust mask when cutting the CMU block. Put on safety goggles and gloves to protect you from the harmful dust produced when cutting CMU. Drill small holes in the CMU with a hammer drill with a masonry drill bit. Move the bit in and out of the hole as you drill to clean the hole of concrete debris and make for quicker drilling. Drill larger holes in the CMU block with a dry cut coring bit. Install the starter masonry bit into the drill motor, and tighten it in place.
