The finishing touch to any quilting project is to attach a binding. Binding secures the edges of your fabric to protect them from fraying. To cut fabric for strip binding, you’ll want to prewash and iron it before cutting. To select your binding fabric, choose a color that will either blend in with your quilt top fabric or contrast it. While any width can be used, these instructions will make 2-inch strips, which are then folded over to create a double binding. Cut your fabric into an 18-inch square with the grains running up and down and side to side. Slip a pin into the center of the top and bottom edges of the fabric. The pin should be easy to see to mark these sides for you. Make a diagonal cut from one corner to another to form two triangles. Align the edges with the marking pins together with the patterned sides of the fabric facing each other. Pin the edges together to hold them.
