How Do You Cut Out Ceramic Floor Tile?

0

Removing one or several ceramic floor tiles—either because they’re damaged, or because you want to replace them with an accent tile—is a relatively difficult task because you don’t want to damage the surrounding tiles. You can’t just break them out with hammer as you would if you were removing the whole floor. Instead, you have to cut around them with a grout saw (a square carbide blade on a handle) to create a buffer so you can chisel and pry without affecting the surrounding tiles. Patience and elbow grease are both required. Scrape the grout that’s around the tile, using your grout saw. Push and pull the saw forward and back on the grout lines, digging down gradually. Remove as much of the grout as you can without damaging the surrounding tiles. Use your glass cutter to score two intersecting lines across the tile face, from each corner, making an X. Use your chisel and hammer to break a hole through the center of the tile, where the two scored lines meet. Continue chiseling alo
