How Do You Cut Rigid Plastic Pipe?
Rigid plastic pipe is used for water-supply lines and drain piping. For cutting rigid plastic piping, common hand cutting tools are often a better choice than power tools. Although power tools will cut rigid plastic pipe efficiently, one wrong move can shatter the pipe and send plastic shrapnel flying in the air. This is dangerous and common if you do not have a lot of experience cutting rigid plastic pipe with power tools and therefore best avoided for a standard do-it-yourself plumbing project. Place a mark with the permanent marker on the surface of the rigid plastic pipe at the length you need to cut the pipe. Slide the rigid plastic pipe into the miter box. Stop sliding the pipe when the mark made with the permanent marker mark aligns with the square cut of the miter box. Hold the rigid plastic pipe in place with one hand and insert the fine-toothed blade of the hacksaw into the miter box. Make sure that the blade rests in both slits that signify the square cut.
