Decorating a multipurpose space is often difficult. Each room should be clearly defined and visually pleasing. Otherwise, your home will appear cluttered and not unified. Decorating a small living room and dining room combination as two separate rooms but with shared design, colors, fabrics and paint is ideal. Before you begin decorating, assess the area and how you can incorporate elements into both areas. Paint the walls all one color. Decide on a color that will work well for your combination living and dining rooms. Since the area is small, choose a neutral or soft color. One option is a light buttery yellow or a soft sage green. Add rugs to the room. Arrange them so that they define the room as two separate spaces. Visually, it will look that way. I would try to ensure that the 2 areas are clearly separated somehow – either by design or by an actual screen in between both living areas. A good idea would actually be a sideboard or cabinet which could double up for plate and dinnerware storage so that you can easily set the table when people come over. Using different textures or style can make the flow from one room to the next as seamless or separated as you like!
