How Do You Detect Counterfeit Bills Using UV Light?
The United States Treasury department has recently made significant changes to the design of virtually all paper currency. These designs have been for both aesthetic and security purposes. Several new features have been implemented into paper currency to prevent counterfeiting, including the placement of ultraviolet (UV) reactive elements within the paper itself. For business owners or anyone who needs to detect fake bills, employing the UV light detection method should become a basic skill. Turn on your UV light emitting device. Turn off all other lights in the room where you are testing the currency. Hold the currency in front of the UV light source. Take note of the color reflected from the currency in question. Every denomination, excluding the one dollar bill, glows a specific color in response to UV radiation. If they are authentic, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 dollar bills will glow blue, orange, green, yellow and red, respectively.
