How Do You Determine If A Budgerigar (Parakeet) Is A Male Or Female?

0

This article will tell you how to identify between male and female Budgerigars (aka budgies, parakeets). The process is quite easy and will allow you to set up breeding pairs, or just assist you with nameing your new pet with a name that corresponds to its gender. Budgies are amazing little birds that will dazzle their owners with their antics. Please do not attempt to breed budgies if you have no where to keep them or if you are not willing to find good homes for them. They tend to “breed like mice”. First you will need some budgies! I have included reference photos throughout this article to help you in case you come up short on budgies. You want to hold the budgie so that you can see its cere (the patch of skin where its nostrils are). You want to look at the color of the cere. If the cere is blue or purple in appearance you have a male. If the cere is brown or light pink you have a female. That’s it, it’s that simple!
