How Do You Do The Colored Celery Science Experiment?

0

This easy to do colored celery science experiment will demonstrate how plants absorb water out of the soil with their root system and send it up into the rest of the plant. If you are working with children, be sure to allow them to do as many steps of this experiment on their own. You may also want to explain to them that in addition to water, all plants need sunlight, air, soil, the right temperature and room to grow properly. Fill the tall glass with water and put the celery into it. Observe and discuss what the celery looks like. Record your observations. Add a few drops of red or blue food coloring to the glass of water with the celery in it. Put the glasses in a safe place and let sit overnight. In the morning, take a look at the celery. Observe what has happened overnight. Even some adults may be in for a surprise. Discuss with the children and record your findings.
