How Do You Enable DMA In HP Computers?
Direct Memory Access (DMA) is a function that permits various hardware drives and cards on a computer to use memory independently from the Central Processing Unit (CPU), which allows the CPU to perform functions other than maintaining the processes that allow the system to function. DMA can be enabled from the “Device Manager” menu, and if the computer’s performance suffers, DMA can be easily disabled. Right-click on “My Computer” and click on “Manage” on the drop-menu. Click on the “+” sign beside “System Tools” and click on “Device Manager” to see a list of the devices that are on the computer. Click on “IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers” and a list of the controllers appears below the heading. Open “Primary IDE Channel” or “Secondary IDE Channel” to display the “Properties” dialogue box. You can also right-click on it and then click “Properties.” Click on the “Advanced Settings” tab. Set the “Device 0” and “Device 1” “Transfer Mode” to “DMA if available.” Click on “OK” to confirm the change
