How Do You Explore Seattles Pike Place Market?
Since 1907, this 9-acre shopping and dining landmark overlooking the Elliott Bay waterfront has been one of Seattle’s most popular destinations. An important shopping venue for local farmers, fishermen, artists, craftspeople and merchants, it is the oldest continually operated public farmer’s market in the United States. Open daily, the market has a main layer and several lower levels, and is bounded by First Avenue to the east and Western Avenue to the west, divided by Pike Place, a one-way street. Be aware that the market is comprised of a number of buildings. The sign that declares “Meet the Producer” refers to meeting the people who raise, catch, create and sell the products they sell and there are many to meet and talk to. Watch fishmongers throw whole fish through the air; it’s show all by itself. Even if you live on the east coast, your seafood will be shipped to arrive the next day. See the locally grown fruit and vegetables beautifully displayed by vendors such as Choice Produ
