How Do You Fasten Studs To Steel Roof Decking?
In commercial construction and remodeling, the studs often run from the floor to the roof decking. The top track runs either across or along the ribs of the decking. At times, the top track runs parallel to the decking where it is not possible to attach it, because the track sits between two lower ribs. When this is the case, additional metal framing is required. A laser level is a handy tool to mark the location of the top track on the framing or roof deck. Mark the location of the bottom track and attach it to the floor. Place the laser level against the bottom track and mark the roof deck in two or three places with a marker. Hold the track on the marks and attach the track to the roof decking with 1/2-inch self-drilling, pan head screws. Cut your studs 3/4 inch shorter than the distance between the top and bottom track. Screw the steel studs to the bottom track with one 1/2-inch pan head screw on each side of the track. Only one screw is necessary in the top track. Remove the screw
