Catastrophes like Hurricane Katrina or the Haitian earthquake have reminded people of how fragile our existence can be when there is a lack of food, shelter, security, and potable water as the result of natural or man-made disasters. I’m going to show you how to filter your own water supply (and purify it), should your city or well water become contaminated or supplies be cut off. Locate a large plastic container that has large open end and won’t leak. Something resembling a plastic garbage can will do; you may have to just use whatever you can find. May sure the container is clean. Cut a hole in the bottom of the container with whatever sharp instrument you can find. It doesn’t have to be perfectly round, just large enough to fit the plastic soda bottleneck through. Cut your soda bottle in half and stuff t-shirt into it as tightly as possible.
