How Do You Find An SIC Code?
The Standard Industrial Code, or S.I.C., is the statistical identifier used by credit agencies, banks and the government to gather and analyze information about a particular industry. Because of limitations in the design of the code, it has largely been replaced by the North American Industry Classification System or N.A.I.C.S. Navigate to the N.A.I.C.S. home page (http://www.naics.com/search.htm). The right side of the page lists the broad groupings of N.A.I.C.S. codes first and below, the S.I.C. groupings. The left side contains the search boxes. Enter a keyword describing your industry in the first search box and click the search button. Scroll down the resulting list of N.A.I.C.S. codes until you find one that best describes your business. Click on the six-digit code. The next page gives a more detailed description of the chosen code, suggests alternates and presents you with a list of S.I.C. codes corresponding to the industry.
