How Do You Find The Correct BTU Rating When Buying A Garage Heater?
• Grab your tape measure. • Measure the width and length of the room in feet. • Multiply the width and length to find the floor area. For example: If the room is 10 feet long and 10 feet wide, the floor area will be 100 square feet. • Measure the height of the room from the floor to the ceiling. • Multiply this number by the floor area to find the volume of the room. For example: If the height of the room is 7 feet, the volume will be 700 cubic feet. Now simply multiply the volume by 2 if the room is well insulated, 3 if the insulation is about average, or 4 if the room is poorly insulated. So a room with a volume of 700 cubic feet that is poorly insulated will require a heater with a BTU rating of at least 2,800 to heat it adequately.
