The reasoning behind Cadillac Seville’s trunk lid-pull mechanism is to help provide the proper sealing for a trunk. Because of the width of the trunk lid, the lid can bend or twist easily if forced. It is also difficult to seal this much area, so the automatic pull down was devised to exert the proper amount of pressure to seal the trunk lid against the rubber seal creating an air tight seal. Pull the trunk lid down slowly and press lightly to latch the trunk lid latch to the lower pull-down. If it does not latch, the latch mechanism on the trunk lid is at fault. If it does latch, listen for the pull down to try to operate. If the pull-down mechanism makes noise to signify it is attempting to pull the trunk lid down, then the pull-down is bad.
