How Do You Fix A Leaking Window?
A leaking window can create a mess, cause structural damage and lead to mold formation. The best solution is to fix the leak as soon as it appears. This usually involves taking the window out and making the necessary repairs to the sash or the wood frame and trim that surrounds the window. Carefully remove the inside window stop that holds the bottom sash (wooden window frame) in place. Use a putty knife or a small, flat pry bar and a hammer to do this. Try to remove the window stop in one piece, if possible. Remove the window and place it on an appropriate work space. If the window has a rope connected to the top, this means that you are working with a double hung window. In this case, drive a large common nail into the trim, untie the rope from the window and tie it around the nail instead. Once this is done on both sides, you can then remove the window. Lay the window on the work surface and take out as many pieces of old glazing that you can. Use a utility knife or a putty knife. B
