As wonderful as the sound that comes from them, speaker coils are, by their nature of sensitivity, very brittle. They can be repaired—several times over, even—but the sound might never be the same as when they were brand-new. However, just by using a healthy dose of silicone in the right places, you can restore any speaker coil at least once to near-perfect sound. Step 1 Locate the crack along both sides of the speaker coil. Generally, it will be visible, and you will also be able to feel it. However, be very gentle when searching by touch, because you do not want to further damage that area of the coil. Step 2 Squeeze a thin film of silicone onto your finger and gently spread it over the top of the crack. Make sure the silicone overlaps by about ¼ of an inch on all sides. You will need to do the same thing, and also allow a ¼-inch overlap of silicone along the entire crack, on the other side.
