How Do You Fix An NTLDR Hard Drive?
NTLDR refers to a specialized file used by Windows to boot the computer. If this file becomes corrupted, the computer no longer boots. To fix the drive, the file needs to be replaced with the NTLDR file located on the Windows installation CD. The CD has all the files necessary to boot and copy NTLDR, which restores the hard drive. Step 1 Insert the CDROM into the drive and reboot the computer. The Windows CD is bootable, so the computer will boot into a DOS installation screen. Step 2 Click the “R” key to start the repair process. The next screen summarizes repair options. Select number 1, which gives you access to the DOS prompt. Step 3 Enter the username and password for the administrator account. This process can also be used to repair a lost administrator password. Step 4 Type the following commands in the DOS prompt. These two files are necessary for the computer to boot. Replace the letter “e” with the drive letter for your CD-ROM: copy e:\i386\ntldr c:\ copy e:\i386\ntdetect.com
