I have a 2000 Chevy Astro Van that the AC just suddenly started blowing through the defrost vents only. The setting of the switch on the dashboard didn’t matter at all. The fan worked fine and the air was cold, I just couldn’t direct it out the front air vents. This problem is caused by a broken vacuum hose. The solution will work on GMC Safari vans and vans of other years, although the exact location and color of the hose may not be the same. This repair cost me less than $2. The dealer said it was the air vane and would probably be close to $400. Without vacuum, the air control will always direct all the air out the defrost vents.
