The only way to tell the difference between back muscle pain and kidney infections or stones is to see your doctor. You should get immediate medical attention, because a kidney infection can be fatal. That being said, lets look at some symptoms of both. Symptoms of kidney problems may include: lower back pain that radiates into the groin; a general ill-feeling, with perhaps vomiting; a fever; urine abnormalities like cloudy and/or smelly. However, back muscle strain pain tends to show different symptoms. The pain may have occurred suddenly, like as from an exercising injury. The pain may get greater or lesser by certain movements or positions. It normally does not cause vomiting or illness. Again, you should always see a doctor, but these are only general guidelines.
