Whether in your home, your business or even your garage, a leaky roof can happen. When a leak occurs, it’s important to not only find the source of the leak, but also fix it so you can prevent cosmetic and possibly structural damage. Exterior Damage Step 1 Determine where the leak is occurring. Use an extension ladder to climb onto the roof in the area where you think the leak is. With caution, take a hammer and pound lightly around the area to feel and hear for any soft spots on the roof. Step 2 Narrow down the cause of the leak.
