How Do You Get 2 Dogs To Get Along1 Is A 1 Yr?

We brought together a 14 year old grumpy miester dog with our new to the family one year old dog. At first it was really hard and we kept them apart. We then found a local trainer who met with us, then met with each dog separately and then met with them together. Now, they are totally fine with each other. We have some basic ground rules we follow. They never eat together, in the same place or receive any food bites or treats in the same space. They have their own bed’s and blankets and are taught to respect each other’s spaces. Now, the baby, Sophie, is bigger and stronger and is a German/Queensland hybrid so she can be strong willed. She will herd Faith off her bed and then stand on it like queen of the mountain, but now that Faith is getting what she needs from us all the time, she doesn’t mind. She loves to play with Sophie now. I really recommend you talk to a professional in your area about your two animals and at a minimum introduce the more aggressive animal to him or her. Muzz

The reason for this sort of behaviour is that both dogs are trying to establish themselves as the leader. YOU must show them that You are the leader. Be clear in your directions and only respond to correct behaviour (don’t tell them off, shout at them, etc). It won’t take long and you will be amazed.
