So you want to be an extra on the big screen or on TV, huh? Well, it may seem like a daunting task, but it’s really quite simple. FIRST, you need to make sure your area has some sort of film industry. If not, then you either have to relocate, plan to do a LOT of traveling, or give this dream up for now. Extras (also called background or atmosphere) are not well paid. In other words, you’re not going to make a living doing extra work. The hours are VERY long (set days are generally a MINIMUM of 12 hours but can go 18 hours or more!) Look on the internet for local “extras” casting directors.
