Removing Windows Defender from the list of Windows start-up services prevents it from conflicting with your other spyware-removal software. Windows Defender is enabled by default to protect your computer from malicious software, but it’s good practice to only have one program for the task. If you’re running Windows XP, you can uninstall Windows Defender entirely; newer versions of Windows have it integrated. You’ll need to have administrative rights to perform either of these changes. Open your “Start” menu and select “Control Panel.” If you don’t see it, look under “Settings.” Open the “Administrative Tools” icon by clicking on it. Double-click on “Services.” Scroll down the page until you find the entry “Windows Defender” and right-click it.
