If you want to give a table a modern country look, crackle finish is the way to go. There are quite a few easy steps that you must take in order to give a table crackle finish. All the supplies can be purchased at your local home improvement store. Before you begin sand any old finishes off your table and then cover the areas that will not receive any finish with tape. After taping off the areas, apply the base coat evenly to portion of the table you are finishing. Remove the tape and allow the base coat to dry overnight. Reapply tape to protect the areas you don’t want to finish. Take your foam brush and apply the crackly over the untaped surface in an X pattern. Only brush over the surface once. The crackle dries quickly so do not overwork it. Completely cover the surface. This will allow the crackle finish to show through all areas. Let sit for about 4 hours. Once dry.
