How Do You Give First Aid To A Choking Child?
Children like to put small things in their mouths, and it’s not uncommon for those small objects to become lodged in the children’s throats from time to time. If you encounter a choking child, it is important that you remain calm to help the child the best you can. Step 1 Use the base of the palm of your hand to strike the back of the child between the shoulder blades. Do this five times in succession to try to dislodge the object stuck in the child’s throat. Step 2 Perform the Heimlich maneuver on the child to try to push the object out of the child with force. Do this by standing behind the child, putting your hands together in a fist and placing them right underneath the child’s ribcage. Squeeze your hands inward into the child firmly. Step 3 Continue striking the child on the back five times in a row between his shoulder blades and conducting the Heimlich maneuver until the item lodged in the child’s throat is removed.
