The loquat plum is a subtropical evergreen that grows best in hardiness zones 7 to 10 or where average winter low temperatures do not fall below 0 degrees Fahrenheit. It is often grown as a shade tree in the southernmost United States, and is valued for its fruit and attractive foliage. While its overall structure can survive cold temperatures, the loquat plum fruit tends to freeze at temperatures below about 27 degrees Fahrenheit. Choose a sunny, well-drained location in which to plant your loquat plum tree. The pH of the soil does not seem to matter to this tree.
