How Do You Grow Brugmansia From A Seed?
Brugmansia, or angel’s trumpet, is a perennial flowering plant that grows well in USDA agricultural zones 8-10. It has long, pendulous, sweet-smelling flowers and can live for many years if planted in the right location. The seeds look like little beans and have a corklike covering that can be removed easily when seeds are fresh or after soaking in warm water for a few hours if seeds are dry. Wash containers and fill with sterile potting medium. A sterile potting medium is important because germination can take up to 10 weeks, and the seeds and potting medium must remain damp the entire time. This will allow mildew and fungal problems to develop if the potting mix is not sterile. Soak the potting mix or medium with distilled water and let drain until the mix is damp. Press the seed into the damp potting mix until it has good contact with the mix. Do not cover, as brugmansia seed needs light to germinate. Place in a bright warm area with optimal temperatures between 72 and 85 degrees F.
