Flowering quince has a rounded top and can grow to be about 6 feet in height and 10 feet in diameter. Compact varieties grow to about 2 to 3 feet in height and about 4 to 5 feet in diameter. Flowering quince can be grown in USDA zones 5 through 10. Stratify the quince seeds in a plastic bag of peat moss that has been lightly moistened. Seal the bag and leave it in the refrigerator for eight weeks. This will break the dormancy of the seeds. Put commercial potting soil into a plant pot with one or more drainage holes in the bottom. You can also use your own sterile germination mix of peat moss, perlite and sterilized soil in place of potting soil.
