There are many aquarium fish, such as cichlids and other carnivores, that enjoy red worms in their diet. Freeze-dried worms are available in most pet stores, but some fish owners prefer to grow their own. It is less expensive, especially if you own a large number of fish–and you will know your fish are not eating any additives you do not want them to have. Poke a few small holes in the bottom of the container and put a tray under it to protect the surface it is sitting on. Fill the container part of the way with wet soil or coconut coir. If you are using coconut coir, soak it according to the directions on the package before putting it in the container. Soak the shredded paper overnight in water. Cardboard will also work, but will need to be soaked slightly longer than the paper. Mix the paper in with the soil, making sure to blend in thoroughly.
