How Do You Help Children Sleep During A Thunderstorm?

• Give them a calming bedtime snack such as Rice Krispies, and a glass of warm milk. For older kids, give them some toast with hot chocolate or tea, and snuggle up on the couch with them and watch a good show. • When it’s time for bed, read little kids a brothers Grimm story such as Cinderella or Rapunzel. For older ones, tell them a funny story from when you were growing up. • Tuck them in and give them a item that makes them feel safe; such as a teddy bear, or a special blanket. Tell them the storm is outside and it won’t hurt them, and kiss them good night. • Leave the hallway light on, or turn on a night light. • If they come to you and say they can’t sleep, give them a glass of juice, and take them back to bed. Sing them a song, or put a relaxing CD on. Sit in the room with them if they’re afraid, until they fall asleep. If all else fails, invite them to sleep with you.
