The hiker follows the Mist Trail to the crest of Vernal Falls and continues up to the more impressive falls, Nevada. Located almost directly behind Half Dome, Nevada Falls is a taller albeit narrower drop then Vernal, and from its precarious crest, one can experience excellent views of the Yosemite Valley below. Plan the trip during late spring, before schools schedule their year end field trips and before the onslaught of summer visitors. Though an autumn hike may be quite enjoyable, the water falling will not be full force. Plan an early morning trip. Regardless of the amount of visitors in the valley on any particular day, only a fraction will make the trek even to Vernal. Less will attempt the Mist Trail, and even less will attempt Nevada.
