How Do You Hook Up Trolling Motor Batteries?
Hooking up a trolling motor to a 12-volt battery is moderately easy with the right tools and a little know-how. Follow these steps and you’ll be out on the water in no time. Turn off the trolling motor, or put it in the neutral position. Remove the wing nuts, by hand or using pliers, from the positive and negative battery terminals. If your trolling motor cables have crimp connections, loosen the connectors with a wrench or socket set (typically 8mm or 10mm) and slide it off the terminal. Place the red (+) lead wire from the trolling motor on the red (+) battery terminal and firmly tighten the wing nut with your hand. Do not overtighten. Place the black (-) lead wire from the trolling motor on the black (-) battery terminal and firmly tighten the wing nut with your hand. Do not overtighten. If your trolling motor has crimp connections, repeat the steps above, but tighten with a wrench or socket set. Test the connection. The prop of the trolling motor should be clear of any hands or obj
