In about two to three weeks, maybe less, you can train your dog or puppy to go the door and alert you when he/she needs to go potty. This can be done without one accident. Consistency and firmness are the keys to success. You can successfully train your dog or puppy to go out of the house by using these methods. Decide where in your home you will be training your puppy. For example, if you have a three story large house, keep the puppy on the main floor where you keep his/her food and water. The key is to make it easy for the puppy to find the door when needed and not have to navigate through hallways, up stairs, or run through rooms to do so. Buy a dog crate or cage just big enough for your puppy to stand up and turn around in. It is VERY important not to use a crate that is too big.
