How Do You Identify An American Curl?
The American Curl is a relatively new breed of cat, which originated in 1981 and received championship class by the Cat Fanciers Association in 1993. The breed originated in California when two cats were found with spontaneous mutations. To identify the breed, you must watch for several key things. Check out the cat’s ears. The defining characteristic of American Curl cats are their curled back ears. The ears are bent backward at least slightly and can be bent backward as much as 180 degrees. Fur shoots outward and forward from the curled back ears. Look at the tail of the cat. If it is an American Curl, it will have a tail with thick, long, hair plumed outward. Feel the cat’s coat.
