How Do You Identify The Sand Tiger Shark?
The sand tiger shark lives in the waters of North Carolina, South Africa, Australia, China, Japan and India. In America, we consider him harmless and not aggressive but in other countries they consider him very dangerous. The sand tiger shark has three rows of teeth which he sheds within two weeks. He eats all types of fish, squid, small sharks, rays, marine mammals and anything else he can find. Determine a sand tiger shark by his stout body. He is gray on top and white underneath and usually appears bronze from above the water. Look for his two large dorsal fins that are almost the same in size. His body is similar to a lemon shark but he has a more pointed body. Notice that the sand tiger shark swims with his mouth open. He has large sharp teeth arranged in three rows. His teeth are designed for small prey only making him no danger to man. Watch for the sand tiger shark in warm shallow waters, along the ocean floor and in the surf zone, close to shore.
