How Do You Install A Garage Door Torsion Spring?
Garage door torsion springs are a key part of the opening and closing mechanism, whether you use an automatic garage door opener or lift it by hand. Over time, these springs can lose tension, stretch and break. With a few common hand tools, you can install new garage door torsion springs to make your door easier and safer to open. Step 1 Mark the spots where the cable drums line up with the bar so that you can put them back in place when you are finished installing the torsion springs. The cable drums are near the outer edge of the garage door and tracks. Step 2 Unscrew the set screws on each cable drum and slide the bar toward the center of the garage door. Remove the bar from the end bracket. Step 3 Slide the cable drum and torsion springs off the bar. You should be able to slide the springs from both sides off one end of the bar. Step 4 Place the new torsion springs onto the bar with the cable drums. The spring with the red end should be on the left if you are facing the garage door
